TASK 2

Key Artwork

In this task, we need to make a wordmark/lettering that is used to identify as ourselves. We will use is as an artwork that might adorn a lapel pin/T-shirt/poster. The key artwork can be disassembled into constituent shapes to form vibrant patterns that continue to maintain and expand its visual identity.

Finding inspo

I produce a mind map and mood board in canva

fig 1.0 mind map (5/17/24)

fig 1.1 Mood board/ inspo (5/17/24)

Based on my mood board/ inspo there's two different theme which would cause trouble for me. But based on my mind map, I may want to lean towards the dark theme more because it really suits me. I find cybersigilism characteristic or style really cool and interesting. Therefore, i am going to explore on it more.

chosen title:
ÆDI

1. Sketch up

fig 2.0 Sketch Ideas (20/05/24)

I've began to sketch a few type of my ideas and I kind of like with 3 but 3a is an alternate version but I still prefer number 3.

2. Digitization

fig 2.1 Digitization (20/05/24)

These are some varies of ideas but I still feel like I can do better because I'm having mixed feelings. So far, I love 3 because of D and T are connected and T is very thin.

fig 2.2 Digitization (29/05/24)

Feedback

Make it straight, the letters does not need to be italic or slanted. AE is fine, DI needs to be work work with the thickness or improve on it
Cannot make it pointy Change the keyword (Pointy, sharp, detail) word "detail" is alright

fig 2.3 Digitization (29/05/24)

After I got the feedback, I began to start to improve my work. In fig 2,3, I began to explore to abstract my title to make it more interesting. I was worried about the readability and asked everyone around me if they can understand with my abstract work.

fig 2.4 Digitization (29/05/24)

at first I wasn't happy how it looks because of the thickness and the E looks very small compare to other letters.

fig 2.4 Digitization (01/06/24)

Keyword

Detail, mysticism, bold

In fig 2.3, I can't choose between the top or the bottom because the top is readable and is safe and the bottom is where I am going abstract with my title. So, therefore it would look nice when display it in the mock up.

Or I would have more ideas when it comes to displaying it in IG.

3. Identity

Since I have trouble on choosing which title I'm working on, I decide to work on two identity to just incase if one of them didn't pass the critics.

This part is where we take our digitization and titled our identity like in an IG (Instagram) form.
We have to put our title into a mock up or collateral that represent a brand visually.

We have to show the color pallet, mock up, patters, etc.

fig 3.0 Progress (02/06/24)

for identity, this is my progress for creative an abstract using my title and the color palette that I use. I explore out different ways on how my title can be display in an abstract art.

I really like the how my title has that mystic and detail look, so that it would look very interesting when I combine them into some sort of pattern.

fig 3.1 Final 1 (03/06/24)

Overall I was impress of the design, especially the abstract of my title, benefits the look of the mock up and poster design but it is not readable which could confuse the clients.

fig 3.2 Final 2 (03/06/24)

Mr. Vinod prefers this this because of readability

INSTAGRAM LOOK

fig 3.3 Final 2 (03/06/24)

Overall the changes that I made after I wasn't happy with the first attempt was a drastic change. Mr. Vinod said that fig 3.3 identity is a lot better compare to the first one, in term of readability.

ANIMATED WORDMARK

fig 4.0 Beginning (19/06/24)

In order to export my work to after effect to animate, I need to separate each of my shapes to different layers in order for me to edit easily.

fig 4.1 Progress AE (19/06/24)

fig 4.2 Progress AE (19/06/24)

My thought for my wordmark is to reveal each letters one by one. I used curve graph to edit the speed of the text. Enable motion blur to create sense of speed and depth in my animations

FINAL KEY ARTWORK ANIMATION

fig 4.3 FINAL animation wordmark (19/06/24)

With this animation I wanted create like a trailer to a new product.
Revealing the letters one by one.

REFLECTION

Experience

This task is what I've always wanted. Is to produce a title or logo to build an product for a client. Put my creative thoughts into a product to make the design more appealing. I had many ups and down during this task, when I wasn't happy with my work and decide to make two at once in middle of a tight work with other modules.

Observation

I notice how the title has to be readable and relate to the theme itself. Color palette is very crucial when fitting your title with the product or else it will gives a different mood which can confuse the client. When creating a logo, we are not allowed to have a thick to very thin line or else when someone else zoom out the logo, it will look like it's unfinish or the line will forever going when it zooms in.

Findings

When it comes to creating a work for client, when displaying the work it has to be readable and follow the clients wants/needs. Produce more than 1 title, in case the clients are not happy with one of them.

- Allan Haley

This book is about the source of typographic information and inspiration, documenting and chronicling the full scope of essential typographic knowledge.

In the few pages, they will show the historical developments from Greek letters to the movie Helvetica and ways technology has influenced, advanced type and etc.

This book may be full of description but fun to read since the composition is changing in each page.
